Air Warrior - Aircraft Controls

This is the main 'Aircraft Controls Screen'. In the windows you will see pictures of your own controls, which you will have selected in the drop down menu's below them. Clicking the buttons 'Test and Calibrate' and 'Force Feedback' will take you to the screens below.

The settings shown are for my CH Force Feedback stick, Pro Throttle and Pro Pedals. Try setting yours up according to the guidelines given. Most of these control settings are in the 'suck it and see' category.

Test and Calibrate Graphic Use this screen to calibrate your controllers.

Set the 'Deadband' and 'Damping' sliders all the way to the left, then calibrate your controllers.

Now you can slide the 'Deadband' sliders gradually to the right until the centre markers on the 'Test Window' stop jumping around. Operate any 'Hat' switches, and move the 'Deadbands' again if there is any more jumping of the centre markers.

NB: If in the game you find that you get 'Spikes', ie. the plane momentarily pitches or banks with no controller input, try sliding the 'Damping' slider to the right to iron out these spikes. This setting affects all devices equally.
Finally select the 'Scale Stick Inputs' button to go to the 'Stick Pitch Input Scaling' screen.

Stick Pitch Input Scaling Graphic You will only need to adjust the scaling of your stick if you fly in 'Full Realism'. Selecting 'Custom Scaling' allows you to smooth out the line given with the 'Standard Scaling'. As a starting point select 'Standard Scaling' and have the 'Realism' slider all the way to the right.

Joystick scaling allows you to control stick sensitivity over specific portions of the stick's travel, but it only effects the pitch axis. Reducing pitch sensitivity may help you control the G forces (black outs) resulting from high speed (and high G) manoeuvres.

    Force Feedback Graphic
If you have a 'Force Feedback' stick you can play with the effects here.

There are no rules for this, just set them to 'feel' right.
My settings are shown for reference.

One reccomendation I would give is to set 'Crash' fairly low. There is little point in the stick throwing you around the room when you are already dead, and just looking at a red screen.

NB: For a bit of fun set 'Hits and Explosions' to its highest setting and then fly your plane through some Ack Ack, it's a great effect in bombers.
