Most of my kills tend to be opportunist kills. I am a Vulture, I Boom and Zoom, I pick out the weak and the defenceless, I try to ensure I have all the advantages of Altitude and Energy before engaging. My films demonstrate how to kill the enemy and stay alive.

To get the best out of these films, (especially the Scenarios), they should be viewed using the Krait Squadron "Scenario Aircraft Converter", (SAC). This free utility changes terrain and aircraft skins so that the aircraft you see out of the cockpit carry the correct colours and markings for the chosen era. Film No 1. Vulch flies a Hurricane IIb in the Battle of Britain scenario. We take off from Biggen Hill with 8 enemy ME110s and BF109s over the field. There are 34 enemy aircraft in the sector and I lose both my wingmen almost straight away. Our orders are to avoid the enemy fighters and kill the bombers. - (film break here) - I am now over Lympne engaging 5+ JU88s, I smoke 2 of them on my first pass, get an assist on a third and am then low on ammo. One of my smokers is finished off by someone else and the other crashes giving me two kill credits. I head for the deck to avoid 10+ ME110s and eventually land at Crawley.

Film No 2. This film follows on from Film No 1. I re-up Crawley after a 10 minute wait for re-arming and re-fueling. As the film starts I am engaging a JU88. There are 70+ enemy inbound and only 8 RAF on the map ! The JU88 dumps his bombs in a desperate attempt to increase his speed and manouverability, but it is all in vain as he is killed with a canopy shot. Unfortunately he evaded enough to make me waste half my ammunition on him. - (film break here) - I am now engaging 12+ JU88s with ME110 and BF109 escorts. I smoke then kill a JU88. There are now 63 enemy and 2 RAF on the map; then there is only 1 RAF left...me. I am surrounded by ungunned JU88s but low on ammo. I go head to head with one JU88, do a low yo-yo onto his 6 and smoke him. After several more head on passes he spins and crashes trying to avoid me. With 25% ammo and all remaining bombers high I return to base, (RTB), at Crawley as an 'Ace in a Day', the last surviving RAF pilot.

Film No 3. The Vulture does what he enjoys most. Combat Air Patrol over an enemy field (Rendova) under attack by our bombers. I drop my two bombs on the field and immediately kill a P38 that has just taken off and is desperately trying to gain some speed. Then I make a 300 knot pass on the field killing an F6F that has only just struggled into the air. I orbit the field and catch the same F6F trying a cross field takeoff. Its all in vain, he is smoked and then spins in trying to avoid me. Three Vulches, then my delay shoots up and all aircraft start blinking out, so I RTB to re-log.

Film No 4. My F4U finds a FW190 low on the deck. This is not the place you want to get caught in a Focke Wulf. He turns, I loop over and roll onto his 6. I drop on him again and smoke him. Avoiding the temptation to turn with him, I do a high yo-yo and kill him as he tries to climb; this is a bad move when your opponent has more energy than you.

Film No 5. A textbook pounce. I dive in on a small furball and kill the enemy F4U first pass with a canopy shot while he is chasing my countryman.

Film No 6. This film is more a case of how not to do it. I dive in on a FW-A4 with my FW-D9 and get in a crippling shot. He is finished off shortly after by a countryman to give me the kill. I then engage a Spitfire Mk IX and a 109 who are both low. I extend, find a friend and turn to re-engage, but the enemy are now co-alt. Bad move. I blow all my energy trying to turn with the Spitfire. Dumb move. Then the 109 smokes my engine and with my fuel already in the red the engine dies. Discretion being the better part of valour I bail out.

Film No 7. In my FW-D9 with a seemingly superior energy advantage I dive in on a P51 Mustang. As I close he warps and I make a long extension to re-engage. The P51 starts to run and I persue at 375 knots. He high yo-yo's left and I do an even higher yo-yo to bleed off some speed and line up with where I anticipate he will be. He rolls out of his turn straight into my gunsights, BOOM !, DEAD ! I now have lots of speed but am low on the deck, so I start to convert speed into altitude. Noticing that my fuel is low I RTB.
NB: I had two other kills on this flight prior to my killing the P51, (A FW-A4 and another P51), but had forgotten to turn on the gun camera. On landing I overshoot and taxi back to the runway to find a B17 parked there, giving me a nice close up of his artwork out of my left window.

Film No 8. My D9 meets another D9 co-alt at 20,000 feet. Initially he gets on my 6 and I start a corkscrew dive, then I climb back up and we have a head on pass. A low yo-yo brings me onto his 6, but I spin out trying to follow him high. On recovery it seems he spun as well because I end up way above him, (a good spin recovery technique is essential), another head on pass and he dives for the deck. Now I have all the advantages. He starts to run but with my speed and altitude advantage he won't get away. He turns underneath me and I do an Immelman onto his high 6, following him round and getting some hits. A couple of high yo-yo's force him to turn even tighter and he spins into the ground. The fight went from 20k to 2k and ended in the enemy FW's death.

Film No 9. War weekend over the English Channel. I am in a Spitfire Mk IX at 32,000 feet, no radar, escorting a B17 from Tangmere to Bayeux. Three minutes into the film we sight BF109s over the target almost co-alt. I make a pass on a 109, then follow him up and around, and around. Finally he reverses his turn and tries to climb; a fatal mistake. He realises his error, but it is too late and he dies to a high angle deflection shot. There is now a whole gaggle of FW190s and BF109s in a 30k dogfight trying to kill our bomber. I make a couple of inconclusive passes before saddling up on another 109 trying to climb up to our bomber. On the edge of a stall I kill him as he smokes our B17. With more enemy climbing up to the fight and with my ammo in the red I put the nose down for some speed and head back across the Channel to Blighty. The rest of the film is a nervous flight home trying to avoid enemy scouts. I land back at Tangmere 24 minutes into the film, the whole flight lasting about 40 minutes.

Film No 10. I shouldn't have lived here. As the film starts, a BF109 is on my F4U's tail and I am in deep trouble. Then a squad mate dives into the fight and the 109 makes the cardinal sin of switching targets. As he climbs towards my Squadmate, who has altitude and energy on him, I catch him hanging on his prop in a classic rope-a-dope manoeuvre. He dies just as I reach the stall myself, but with two of us on him the risk was worth taking. If he had stuck on my tail he would probably have got me, as he was out turning me and I was losing energy fast. After a minute or two the film ends.

Film No 11. THIS was my finest hour ! At the start of the film I am about 10-20k over Griswold. The Bz are attacking the field in two's and four's from Yorktown, in F4U's and F6F's at first, then a few Sptifire's and Zero's. By the end of the film I have 'Seven' kills to my credit, which I land back at Griswold. There are a mix of kill types which go to demonstrate what you can do when you have superior Energy and Altitude. The last two kills are vulches, a perfect example of why you shouldn't try to take off from a 'capped' field. Be sure and count the victory rolls performed on the long finals to Griswold :-)
