High Visibility Runways

    What is SAC?
SAC stands for 'Scenario Aircraft Converter', it was conceived by 'Fidd' of the Krait Squadron and designed by 'Fidd' and 'G42' (also a Krait Squadron member). What SAC does is allow you to change the aircraft and terrain bitmaps in Air Warrior.
The visual effect of this is that, for terrains, when you look out of the cockpit of your aircraft, instead of seeing the Kesmai mottled green ground texture, you can choose to see desert, jungle, snow, or the green and pleasant land of England. You can also change the type of clouds you see and in the Pacific arena, the sea state.
For aircraft you can change the colour scheme ('skin') that you see on other aircraft when looking out of your cockpit. So an F4U Corsair for instance could be the default 'It's Big and Blue', or it could be the Royal Navy, Fleet Air Arm mottled green Burma camouflage. A B17 could be silver, green or brown, complete with markings and nose art.
The main reason for SAC, as it's name suggests is in scenario's. For the 'Operation Longbow' scenario you were able to set all the aircraft in the scenario to the actual paint schemes used in that theatre, in that year. You could also set the appropriate terrain. All of this can be done with one or two clicks of the mouse.
SAC also contains an 'Event Clock' that works out all those time zone changes for you, so you need never turn up for a scenario two hours late again. Simply enter the time zone and start time given in the event instructions. The clock will then tell you what time the event starts for your local time zone.
You should note that SAC only works in 3D.
New to SAC is G42's excellent Air Warrior Sound Manager, which allows you to change the sound files, as easily as you change terrains and skins in SAC. The alternate sound files have to be heard to be believed.

What are the high visibility runways and why do I need them?
Some of the SAC terrains, while extremely realistic, can make airfield runways rather hard to see. In the desert terrain for example the airfield is the same colour as the surrounding countryside, and the runways are a sand colour. Simply finding the airfield is hard enough, let alone visually lining up on the runway.
So I have created a replacement set of airfields for SAC. They are loaded over the top of your favourite terrain, and make the runways highly visible. There are three sets, the first set has civilian markings on the runways, complete with runway approach lights (where possible). The second set has bright red runways and a bright red airfield perimeter hedge. This second set is not intended for general arena play, but more for testing and practising field approaches. The third set is the Air Warrior default fields, these are included so you can reset the airfields to Kesmai green, without having to reset all the rest of the terrain.

Below are some screen shots taken using various SAC terrains. Different types of airfield and different distances and heights from the airfields have been used. The aircraft in the shots is the same one every time, (Spitfire Mk Vb), with different SAC aircraft 'skins' selected.

Installation instructions for the high visibility runways.
Installing these runways couldn't be easier. Download the self extracting zip file to your hard drive. Double click on the file you have downloaded and extract the contents into your SAC\terrain folder. Launch SAC and click the terain button, then scroll down until you see the three 'runways' entries.
