Air Warrior Sound Setup

Sound Setup Graphic The sound setup screen selects whether you have sound effects, incidental sounds, and voice communications switched on.

Incidental sounds should be switched off, especially if you want to use in game voice communications. I have found that most voice comm's problems can be traced to having incidental sounds on; so turn them off.

You will obviously need to select 'Enable Network Speech' if you want voice comm's on.

Having switched on voice comm's you will need to select 'Customize Sound Effects', otherwise you will find that you are unable to hear anyone, as their voices will be drowned out by the engine noise.

Selecting 'Custom Sound Effects' will bring up the 'Custom Sound Setup' box shown below.

Custom Sound Setup Graphic These are my custom sound settings. Use them as a starting point. Generally I have engine noises low, guns, explosions and hits high, and everything else in the mid range. If you find a particular noise intrusive you can always adjust it when you land. Just click your right mouse button and select 'Setup...Sound...'.

The 'Max Audible Distance' is the number in yards at which you will hear the sounds generated by other planes in your vicinity, it can be set anywhere between zero and 3000 yards.

I have max audible distance set to 2000 yards, (as indicated by the number in the middle). This may sound like a lot, but if you are flying along, perhaps typing; if you suddenly hear an engine noise it gives you time to break. An enemy plane diving on you will cover 2000 yards very fast. On more than one occasion I have been saved from an embarrasing bounce by hearing the enemy before I saw him.

NB: If you turn off 'Wind' and 'G-Stress' you may see an improvement in frame rate, for no significant sound loss.
