My name is 'Vulture' and I fly online with Krait Squadron.
Krait Squadron pilots all used to fly in Air Warrior, an online, multiplayer, combat flight simulator. I say used to because Air Warrior is no longer available.

Vulture was my Air Warrior handle, and my CPID or callsign was Vulch.
Vulture: All Vultures are large birds with a naked head and hooked bill. They feed almost entirely on carrion, occasionally attacking newborn (dweebs) or wounded living (smokers) animals. Most hunt by sight, soaring and watching for other vultures descending to feed.
Vulch: From the noun Vulture, in Air Warrior it becomes a verb, meaning to prey on a nearly or completely defenceless victim. (Less elegantly to eat dead meat).

The first flight simulator I bought was F15 Strike Eagle by Microprose, which I played on an Atari 800. In F15 you could give yourself a handle, and that's where Vulture came from. I wanted a handle that was menacing, predatory, and not too common. Vulture seemed to fit the bill. If you read the 'Scavengers Posts' you will find that Scavenger and I have a lot in common. I too had visions of circling far above, to come screaming down on my unfortunate prey; I too came screaming down, screaming right past, screaming right into the ground with an indicated airspeed of 500 knots!

My previous job as a photographer with the Fleet Air Arm (FAA) took me flying a lot as aircrew, usually in rotary wing aircraft. For our transatlantic cousins the FAA is the flying wing of the Royal Navy. The rest of the Navy call us WAFUS, (Wet and fu***ng useless), the Yanks call us Airdales!

My favourite plane in Air Warrior depended on the circumstances of my flight and which terrains and aircraft were available. I liked to fly the F4U Corsair and the P51 Mustang, but my last favourite was the Focke Wulf, either the 190A-8 for its immense fire power, or the 190D-9 for it's great speed. The A-8's four 20mm cannons gave you the ability to down the enemy with the briefest of snapshots, while the D-9's speed allowed you a safety net in a target rich environment. As you may have guessed I am what is known as a Boom and Zoom (B&Z) fighter. Boom down from a great height, kill, and zoom back up to a safe height, ready to kill again. (Just like a Vulture). Unfortunately I quite often get suckered into turning after an enemy for that last good shot, (B&Z planes don't have a good sustained turn rate), only to find myself low level, out of speed and consequently out of energy. In Air Warrior energy is life; but hey, life is cheap!

As a pilot with Krait Squadron I flew missions with my squadron and I also flew individually every chance I got, always in FR.

So now you know a bit about me, what are you waiting for ? Get on-line, strap yourself in the cockpit, and get in the air. Oh ! and be sure to say 'Hi' when you see a Vulture on your six.
If you want to experience the thrills of multiplayer online combat you can still fly online, not with Air Warrior, but with Aces High. It is free to download and free to trial.
