Air Warrior is a computer flight simulator, with one important difference, all your opponents are real people. You fly Air Warrior over the internet in real time, against other pilots from all over the world. There can be up to 250 players at any one time in each of a dozen or so arenas. Each arena has either different planes and terrains, or a different flight model. Relaxed Realism will get you used to the game without the inconvenience of spins and stalls, while Full Realism has the full gamut of spins, blackouts, redouts and so on. There is even a beginners arena to stop you getting picked on by the big boys! And believe me those boys 'are' big. No computer operated drones, no pause button to get you out of a sticky spot, these are real people who will sneak up behind you, gang up on you, do anything they can just to kill you. These virtual skies are deadly and after they have killed you they will call you on the radio to gloat about it. This is where the community spirit of Air Warrior will come to your rescue. Just as you think it's all over you call out on the radio for help, and your fellow countrymen will appear on your wing. Now it's your turn to go in for the kill, your turn to gloat.
The Air Warrior community will also help you with training sessions and advice and tips through newsgroups and bulletin boards. In addition the Air Warrior community regularly organises Scenarios with up to 500 players in a set piece air battle. It could be the Battle of Britain, B17s over Berlin, or a recreation of Midway with opposing carrier forces and all the hazards of carrier landings. These Scenarios are split into frames lasting two hours, but you will only get one life per frame. The build up to Scenarios is tremendous with section commanders issuing orders and radio frequencies as H hour approaches.

Unfortunately Air Warrior is no longer available, but if the idea of flying the virtual skies in a thoroughbred fighter plane appeals to you, you can still experience it. Aces High is also an online combat flight simulator, where I now fly. It is available to download for free.
Aces High also offer a totally free trial.
